Subnautica 2 Equipment: Changed Tool Behavior
Tool functions and fixes that can explain why an older crafting or collection guide no longer matches the game.
This is a reference to documented tool changes, not an exhaustive equipment database. Read the current recipe and equipment limit in your own save before collecting scarce ingredients.
Which change matches your problem?
| Tool or system | Documented change | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Repair Tool | August 19: unlocks after two scans. | An older scan-count instruction may be obsolete. |
| Sonic Resonator | August 19: creature stun extended to ten seconds. | Separate creature stun from resource harvesting rules. |
| Feedback Resonator | August 19: stuns creatures instead of making them flee. | Old flee-based advice may describe a different build. |
| Tracking Tag | August 19: a short-range beacon in carryables; extends Blackbox range if carried when reprinting. | Read the actual item context, not a promise of global tracking. |
| Scanner Station | October 6: accuracy corrected. | A bad scan result in an old clip may be a fixed issue. |

Resource harvesting is a separate check
August’s notes specifically say Atacamite can no longer be harvested with a Sonic Resonator, while Acid sources appear as green Scanner HUD dots. The fact that a tool affects creatures does not imply it harvests every resource. Use resources to filter the relevant resource note.
Record an unlock problem clearly
Our recommendation is to capture the exact item name, scans already completed, recipe screen, branch and build. If one player can craft something and another cannot, include host/client status and the steps each player took. Do not substitute a recipe from the first game when a current item seems expensive.
For base construction costs, the materials planner uses quantities you supply from your own game. It calculates totals and missing materials; it does not claim to know the current game’s full recipe database or a safe equipment progression route.
