The official Early Access roadmap is live. It confirms the order of the next improvement updates and says the team is planning regular updates over the next few months, but it does not give public release dates. Latest Official Notes

What changed after the roadmap

The roadmap is still the sequence source, but the newest official posts changed what the site should prioritize: launch-build troubleshooting, analytics / Terms clarity and creature-balance follow-up.

Live hotfix May 22, 2026

Early Access Hotfix 2

The second hotfix is a current-build patch, not a roadmap content drop. It adds more early Silver and Troilite areas, adjusts Hammerhead interest in Tadpole lights, and continues work on creature balance and graphics-performance feedback.

Editor action: Update resource and troubleshooting pages first. Do not mark sprint, voice chat, trading, revive, new biomes or new vehicles as live until a named roadmap update ships.

Community feedback letter

Unknown Worlds directly addressed creature balance, hostile-creature feedback and Early Access communication. The practical page update is that creature interaction is now an active patch watch item, not just a Reddit argument.

Editor action: These five targets - aggression timing, aggro range, flare effectiveness, Survival Tool effectiveness and creature interactions with vehicles and bases - were delivered in Hotfix 3 (June 1, 2026); see the Patch Notes page for the changelog.

Early Access Hotfix 1

The first hotfix addressed AMD / DirectX 12 startup guidance, an infrequent Ping crash, analytics timing after Terms of Service acceptance and reduced backend data traffic.

Editor action: Keep troubleshooting and buying advice tied to the current build; console players should still account for certification timing.

Player Demand

What players are asking after launch

These answers combine Google Suggest, Reddit discussion and creator coverage from May 15-21. Community signals help prioritize pages; they do not create official promises.

Roadmap dates

Signal: Google Suggest, Reddit comments and media recaps keep asking whether EA 1.1 and EA 1.2 are weeks or months away.

Answer: Unknown Worlds has not published patch dates. The official wording points to plans over the next few months, but the useful answer is still sequence, not calendar: EA 1.1 first, EA 1.2 second, larger world expansion later.

Sprint and storage

Signal: Movement speed and inventory friction show up in Roadmap discussion because early exploration is slow and resource-heavy.

Answer: Sprint and Storage Cache are official EA 1.1 additions. Treat them as planned improvements, not live features until patch notes land.

Voice chat, trading and revive

Signal: Co-op players want to know whether four-player exploration will get better tools than external Discord and manual item drops.

Answer: Voice Chat, Player Trading and Player Revive are official EA 1.2 planned additions. Current co-op groups should still plan roles and shared storage manually.

Map size and future biomes

Signal: Searches include map size, map vs 1, map interactive and map so far. Reddit map comparison posts are active.

Answer: Future biomes are official roadmap direction, but current Early Access boundaries remain current-build boundaries. Do not read future expansion as today's playable map size.

Creature balance / hostile fish

Signal: Reddit discussion, the May 20 official feedback letter and the May 22 Hotfix 2 notes all focus on whether creature encounters feel fair, readable and satisfying.

Answer: Unknown Worlds has now said creature aggression timing, aggro range, flare effectiveness, Survival Tool effectiveness and creature interactions with vehicles and bases are patch targets. Hotfix 2 already adjusts some early pressure, but direct lethal combat remains feedback, not a promised feature.

Silver and Troilite

Signal: Hotfix 2 turned early resource scarcity into a live content-maintenance issue, especially for players looking up Silver, Troilite and upgrade bottlenecks.

Answer: Resource pages should now treat Silver and Troilite availability as build-sensitive. A current route can be useful, but screenshots and POIs need a patch date attached.

Buying now vs waiting

Signal: Review videos and Reddit replies split between strong Early Access enthusiasm and players who want a finished story.

Answer: Play now for co-op exploration and launch-build discovery. Wait if you mainly want complete story chapters, mature balance, and the expanded world.

Save compatibility

Signal: May 18-21 Reddit questions are asking whether future Early Access updates will keep current saves usable.

Answer: Unknown Worlds has not promised that every Early Access save will survive every future update unchanged. Back up saves before major patches and expect some bases, routes or progression assumptions to need adjustment.

Terms, analytics and trust

Signal: Hotfix 1 changed analytics timing and data volume after launch-week Terms of Service concern.

Answer: The May 19 hotfix enabled analytics only after Terms of Service acceptance and reduced backend data traffic. Keep EULA/analytics pages factual and link official notes rather than repeating social-media claims.

Steam snapshot

Launch sentiment is strong, but the numbers move fast

At the May 19 source check, Steam showed English reviews as Very Positive, with 93% positive across 37,105 English user reviews. Because these counts change daily, we use them as launch context, not permanent ranking claims.

FAQ

Roadmap quick answers

When is the Subnautica 2 EA 1.1 release date?

There is no public EA 1.1 release date. Unknown Worlds' May 15 roadmap lists EA 1.1 (Quality of Life) as the next update and describes plans over the coming months, but no calendar date has been announced. EA 1.1 ships before EA 1.2; treat any specific date you see as speculation until official patch notes confirm it.

Does the Subnautica 2 roadmap have dates?

No. The official May 15 roadmap gives an order of updates and describes plans over the next few months, but it does not publish exact dates for EA 1.1, EA 1.2 or the larger future expansions.

Is sprint live in Subnautica 2 now?

Sprint is listed as a planned EA 1.1 addition. Treat it as upcoming until official patch notes say the update is live.

Will Subnautica 2 get new biomes and vehicles?

Yes, the official roadmap lists new biomes, new creatures, new resources, new tools, a new vehicle and the next story chapter under future major expansion updates.

Should the map page add future biomes now?

No. Future roadmap items should be tracked as upcoming content, while the map keeps current Early Access routes and boundaries separate.

Will future updates break current saves?

Unknown Worlds has not promised perfect save compatibility for every Early Access update. Back up saves before major patches and treat current bases or routes as active-development progress.
