Subnautica 2 Patch Notes & Hotfix Tracker

Every confirmed Subnautica 2 Early Access patch since the May 14 launch, with the highlights that affect the resource and progression routes elsewhere on the site, plus what Unknown Worlds has publicly committed to next. We link each change back to its primary source.

Early Access Hotfix 2

May 22, 2026

The second post-release update is also the largest so far - an 11-item changelog from Unknown Worlds that moves Silver and Troilite supply, fixes a teleport and infinite-oxygen bug on the modular submarine, removes the EULA reputation/disclaimer clauses, and signals more creature-balance work to come.

Changelog highlights

  • - More Silver resource areas added in the early-game region.
  • - More Troilite resource areas added in the late-game region.
  • - Hammerheads now ignore the player's Tadpole (they previously chased its lights and clustered near player bases).
  • - Modular submarine: fix for an issue that could teleport players back to base while operating the vehicle.
  • - Modular submarine: fix for an infinite-oxygen bug that could occur after dying of hunger or thirst while piloting.
  • - EULA: removed the clause barring players from "harming Krafton's reputation" via the game.
  • - EULA: removed the requirement for fan videos to carry an explicit Krafton non-endorsement disclaimer (now implicit).

Follow-ups: Unknown Worlds confirmed more changes are being worked on for creature balance and overall graphics performance, rolling out over the coming weeks.

Early Access Hotfix 1 + Community Feedback Letter

Mid-May 2026

The first hotfix landed shortly after the May 14 Early Access launch and was paired with a public Letter to the Community from Unknown Worlds outlining what they had heard from players and what the team would prioritise. The full text and a roadmap walkthrough are published on Unknown Worlds and the studio's YouTube channel.

Highlights

  • - Acknowledged launch-week feedback on creature aggression, base/submersible glitches and EA pacing.
  • - Established the hotfix cadence (small, targeted patches) ahead of the larger content updates on the roadmap.
  • - Linked the Hotfix 1 changelog from the official news hub - see the source links below for the verbatim list.

Hotfix 3 · Released June 1, 2026

The creature-balance fixes Hotfix 3 confirmed

Hotfix 3 (June 1, 2026) confirmed a narrower set of creature, crash, DLSS, flare, and Multitool fixes. Treat the cards below as items to verify against the official changelog, not proof that every earlier watch target shipped.

Creature attack timing

The creature-balance pass targeted hostile-creature aggression timing - making lunges and bites read more fairly before they land.

Aggro range

How far away creatures notice and commit to the player, after launch-week feedback that some encounters triggered from too far out.

Flare effectiveness

Flares as a deterrent were on the re-tune list - one of the survival tools the studio singled out when it addressed whether encounters feel fair.

Survival Tool effectiveness

Broader survival-tool balance against hostile creatures, so defensive options actually buy space instead of feeling cosmetic.

Vehicle & base interactions

Creature behaviour around the modular submarine and player bases - the Hammerhead-vs-Tadpole fix in Hotfix 2 was the first slice of this.

Graphics performance

Bundled with the creature work in the Hotfix 2 follow-up notes; targeted the performance issues raised most in launch-week feedback.

Why this matters for the resource guides

Hotfix 2 redistributed Silver and Troilite pickups, so launch-week route screenshots can be out of date. Each card on the Resources page carries its own date-checked source link - if you see a discrepancy in your current build, cross-check the patch notes here first.
