FAQ

How Long Is Subnautica 2 Early Access?

The developer’s 2–3 year estimate is a planning range, not a confirmed 1.0 launch date or console-port schedule.

Unknown Worlds estimates roughly 2–3 years in Early Access in the Steam Early Access FAQ. The developer also says duration is hard to predict. This is an estimate, not a commitment to a particular month or a guaranteed 2028 or 2029 launch.

What the estimate means

The FAQ describes ongoing additions such as biomes, creatures, craftables, features and narrative, alongside fixes and optimization. It does not guarantee a regular two-week major-patch schedule or promise every update will add each category.

The roadmap separates released improvements from the next content update. An announcement introducing a dev-vlog series is not itself a release date.

Play now or wait?

Our recommendation depends on what you want to experience. If unfinished features and changing balance would make a playthrough frustrating, consider waiting for the content or stability you need. If participating in development is part of the appeal, read the current update notes and check the hardware requirements before buying.

Do not buy solely because an article predicts an exact future discount, price rise amount, console port or save compatibility. The Steam FAQ says the price will increase after Early Access, but it does not state the exact increase. Regional storefront prices and terms should be checked at purchase.

Does this date a PlayStation or Switch version?

No. A development-duration estimate is not a platform announcement. The platform question separates currently linked storefronts from unannounced versions. The original game’s port history cannot establish a timetable for this sequel.
